Queer Momentum Launches Cross-Canada Election Billboards and Ad Campaign focused on freedom and human rights

Queer Momentum, Canada's leading 2SLGBTQIA+ political advocacy organization, has launched non-partisan billboards and other digital out of home ads in 12 cities across Canada, all aimed at encouraging Canadians to vote for freedom, equality and human rights in the 2025 federal election.

Half the ads feature drag artists participating in Queer Momentum's Drag the Vote campaign. The other half are part of our Vote Rainbow Equality campaign. The list of cities included in the campaign are: (east to west) St John's, NL, Halifax, NS, Fredericton, NB, Montreal, QC, Ottawa, ON, Toronto, ON, Winnipeg, MB, Saskatoon, SK, Edmonton, AB and Calgary, AB, Vancouver, BC and Whitehorse, YK.

In each city, the Drag the Vote ads feature local drag artists. The Drag the Vote ad designs by city can be accessed here, and were designed by Leblanc & Co Communications. The three Vote Rainbow Equality ad designs can be accessed here, and were designed by Point Blank Creative Inc.

"In this time of crisis, we need politicians focused on jobs, the economy and affordability. But we cannot forget our values." Said Fae Johnstone, Executive Director of Queer Momentum, "Canadians believe in freedom, equality and human rights."

"Canadians don't want politicians who pick on minorities, who want to control our bodies or tell us how to live our lives. That's not the kind of country we want to be." Said Fae, "And yet, anti-LGBTQ groups and some politicians are trying to change who we are - starting with attacks on transgender people and their families. That's why our billboards and our campaigns are all about empowering Canadians to speak up for freedom and equality - for queer people, for everyone - and to cast their votes with those values in mind.

"Already, we've mobilized hundreds of volunteers through dozens of local actions and reached hundreds of thousands of voters through flyers, posters, social media, drag shows, media coverage and now billboard ads" Tim Ellis, Queer Momentum Campaign Manager, "Our movement is growing. And we won't stop organizing until homophobia, transphobia and threats to our freedom are politically poisonous - for any politician, party or government."

On the International Transgender Day of Visibility, over 200 trans, queer and allied organizations across Canada have published the following open letter to the leaders of Canada's major political parties urging them to uphold equality, freedom and human rights for trans and queer people in Canada.

The letter, authored by Queer Momentum, Egale Canada, the Enchanté Network and the Dignity Network of Canada, recognizes the global backlash against 2SLGBTQIA+ equality, and urges party leaders to "reject any effort, however veiled, to roll Canada backwards on equality and human rights for queer and trans people."

The open letter is below in English and French, with a full list of signatories at the bottom of this page. We welcome new organizations to add their name via this link.
